Annual Report 2024 Hunting Jack Foundation

The Hunting Jack Foundation was founded on February 21, 2024 by Jacques Kooistra.


The Foundation Board consisted of the following members:

· Rein Faber - chairman

· Sicor Smits - secretary

· Jacques Kooistra - treasurer

 

The Foundation aims to further digitize the database of 180,000 people who died during the Second World War, the Dutch East Indies and New Guinea on handwritten cards by Jack Kooistra.

 

The Foundation also provides information at schools and to other institutions, with the aim of ensuring that this information is never forgotten.

 

On April 16, 2024, the King's Commissioner Mr. Brok visited Jack Kooistra at the Bennema State care center in Hardegarijp. The work of 94-year-old Jack Kooistra was discussed extensively, but they also spoke about the liberation of Friesland and Leeuwarden on April 15, 1945.

 

Through Omrop Fryslân, the Hunting Jack Foundation has drawn attention on May 4, 2024, Remembrance Day, to what the Foundation stands for, namely attention to the decline in tolerance in society in general. Furthermore, attention is paid to the Foundation's promotion of its goals and the realization of the digitalization of the handwritten database.

 

The documentary “Hunting Jack” was broadcasted via Omrop Fryslân and NPO2. This documentary is about the unbridled efforts of Jack Kooistra to collect data about people who died during the Second World War, the Dutch East Indies and New Guinea.

 

On Liberation Day, May 5, 2024, Jack Kooistra attended the ceremonies at Wilhelminaplein together with other Veterans.

 

The availability of the ING bank account has been a long time coming

The bank account was officially opened on May 14, 2024. This long wait has had a negative impact on fundraising.

 

Dutch East Indies commemoration was held at the Johannes Postkazerne on Wednesday 12 June 2024. The event was provided by 44Painfbat. Wreaths were also laid at the memorials. Jack Kooistra provided the names at the time.

 

At the invitation of Marco Kroon, Jack Kooistra and Major Smits were allowed to attend Veterans Day on June 29, 2024. It was a special day with special impressions, during which the hands of the King and Prime Minister Mark Rutte were shaken.

 

The municipality of Tietjerksteradeel has invited Jack Kooistra to be present on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at the commemoration of Frisian soldiers who died during post-war battles in the Dutch East Indies and New Guinea.

 

On August 14, 2024, in the presence of many invited guests, the King's Commissioner of the Province of Friesland, Mr. AAM Brok, promoted Jack Kooistra to Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau.

 

Mayor of the municipality of Leeuwarden Sybren Buma met Jack Kooistra on October 4, 2024. Among other things, they discussed Buma's ancestor and the organization 80 years of liberation of Friesland and Leeuwarden.

  

 

 

 

 

Financial report 2024

 

The availability of the ING bank account number took too long, which meant that the foundation was unable to receive certain donations at the right time.

Donations in 2024 were limited to a total of €2,186.

 

The foundation has mainly incurred expenses for setting up and maintaining its website www.sthuna.com . These costs amounted to € 963.65

 

Furthermore, a Meetup community has been set up to increase reach and fundraising opportunities. This annual subscription costs € 135.52.


 

 

 

Projects

 

 

 

Digitization of handwritten database

The foundation is busy finding a suitable partner to digitize the handwritten database and also raise the necessary funds.

 

Publication of book “5017 Jewish Dutch children”

The foundation is in talks with publisher Louise for the design and printing of the 13th book “5017 Jewish Dutch children” compiled by Jack Kooistra.

The publication of this book is scheduled for mid-April 2025.
